It's a theme that we all have experienced, it's a theme that's played out in all cultures throughout history. It's what we are facing right now and the Internet is not a savior; it's a liability. Before you get up and run off to avoid your computer screen, take a second to stop and think about the amount of information that you get into the hands of a person that's online, who has the ability to have an opinion, which can be read by billions of people all over the world and whose opinion is worth more than your entire paycheck. That is an accusation and it's not an overstatement. Consider that next time you go on social media. You see, they don't just post information for you, they post information for the people, and there are going to be people who will read it and post informati on on their wall that is negative. Some will disagree, but more will be incensed by what you've written. They are going to throw rocks at you or yell at you, take it as a challenge and move on to the next critic. It is the nature of social media. So what should you do, when the angry people start throwing rocks and hurling insults? Well, the best thing you can do, is to stay cool. Face reality. The reality is that your life is made up of words that are written on a screen and that information is being sent around the world and especially through social media; within seconds you can be up for public scrutiny. Now, some of this is coming from people that don't want you to do anything, others that want you to gather up the cash you need to pay the bill and move someplace you can be safe, yet others that just want to see you suffer because you are caught on camera; you are on their turf and they are making money off of your misery. This is a fact, but, you need to stay cool and remember, if you are, then you are still alive. Those people that are trying to slander you are doing it for the wrong information, which means that whatever you did wrong, you're going to learn from it. Some things are more important than the money you make or the things you lose and most importantly, that those things are your words. Some of the things that I have said, is going to shock you, but the truth is going to come out of the screen, if you are going to take control of your words and keep them under control. Learn how to deal with your critics and deal with your fans. Get your point across without freaking out and be cool; you can handle this. You see, if you were writing an essay on the possibilities and negatives of social media, it would be something along the lines of, 'The Web is here to stay, so, you are going to have to give it time.' This is what you need to do; keep the heat off of you and stay calm.
